This is one of my favorite pieces.
The steel grating creates interference patterns that shimmer and move as your point of view changes. The patterns are echoed in the ribbon-like grain of the mahogany. The grating also textures the light from the recessed 50w halogen lamp, giving a dramatic quality to a light that is still bright and flat enough to read by.
The gentle curve of the base and ultra-slim profile prevent the tall (8'-5") lamp from being imposing. The lamp is best placed in a corner. It gently reaches into the room, toward a chair, sofa, or bed, and casts lovely hashed scallops on the walls.
