When I was small, I used to try to imagine, when turning on a light, the wires through the house, transformers on telephone poles, miles of wire aggregating as the path was traced back to power stations, hydro-electric dams, etc. A giant and wonderous infrastructure existing to serve one 40w bulb.
This piece has almost nothing at all to do with electric power distribution, but it reminds me of those early imaginings. At the end of this massive lamp, there is a small reflector-base halogen bulb recessed in a pivoting housing. Two long counter-balanced articulating arms are supported by a swivelling base, alowing a small, bright field of light to be placed anywhere within 8 feet of the base, and at any convenient height.
Despite the gigantic scale of the lamp, the business end can be easily moved to place light right where you want it. A reading lamp with a difference.
