I've always liked the way "organic" shapes are often composed of regular, almost machine-like patterns with simple variations. For this piece, I used very thin, circular pieces of Purpleheart in several sizes to form the concentric, interlaced rows of petals. The individually cut leaves are in maple, and a small amount of sawdust is glued into the center. The whole flower floats about an inch above the bottom of a very simple Canarywood bowl.
